SUBJECTS: This section is
intended for parents and families of participants in various sporting
events. It is not
intended for stock photography sales since the subjects have not signed a
model release form. In special cases I may be able to obtain a
model release upon request.
MY BACKGROUND & INTEREST: Our family
has three children who play hockey. Dartmouth
Whalers: PeeWee "A", and Novice Zellers Dogs. East
Hants Bantam "AAA". I take these photos while at the
rink for these games. My coverage includes the teams that we play
against, and in some cases a few shots from the game prior to our
games. I try to provide balanced coverage between the opposing teams.
In summer, my step-son, is racing Mountain bikes with
Bicycle Nova Scotia (#613), so I often cover the
races that he participates in.

If
there are multiple images you like, I can also make a single
"collage". Pricing for this depends on the images and
desired results. Larger sizes (11" x 14") may be appropriate
for this.
PREVIEW
AREA and IMAGE QUALITY: The sidebar to the left has a gallery setup
for each game. There are miniature shots (thumbnails) which when
clicked on, show you a larger view of that shot. The actual files that
I use and sell are much higher quality than the ones that you can see
here. To make the shots load more quickly on the internet I have
lowered the size and therefore quality of these preview shots, you can see a
sample of the higher resolution files in the sample photos area.
Each
hockey rink has its own unique lighting characteristics which can make
taking good quality photos difficult. The best images can be captured
when there is lots of light and not much motion... Unfortunately a
hockey rink is the opposite of this with low light and lots of motion!
The "blurred" effect in some images is usually when high speed
occurs. I use a variety of techniques to minimize the extent of this
problem.
Touching up of images is generally carried out after
an image has been selected. I can change the color tone, intensity,
cut out some backgrounds, etc.

Note 1a:
Since the images are high quality, each image is typically between one and
two megabytes (1-2MB). Some email systems (like hotmail) do not handle
images (attachments) that are this large. Be sure your email provider can
handle files bigger than one megabyte, and that your email mailbox is
not full when you order. I can re-size these to be smaller, but the
resulting print may not be quite as good.
Note 1b:
Be aware that the paper that you select to print on will make a BIG
difference in the finished quality. If you just use normal paper you
probably will not consider my images to be photo quality. If you use
the highest quality "Photo" paper for your printer the
images should be hard to distinguish from a conventional photo. This
high quality paper is quite expensive (Typically $25 per 20 sheets), but is
worth it if the image is worth printing.
Note 1c:
You can email these files directly to some photo stores and they will print
them for you. I have had good experience with Carsand Mosher
Photography, on Barrington Street, Halifax, N.S. You can email your
images to: hfx-lab@carsand.com
Some of the Sobeys film processing locations also print digital
photos! Their prices are similar.
Note
2: Inkjet VS Photos. There are
tradeoff's between prints created on Inkjet paper, and conventional
photos. The
image quality is slightly better with the Inkjet print on Glossy Photo
paper, but ink jet images tend to fade with time (typically over 6 months ).
